Suzanne Merritt ('79) was one of Kutztown’s most prolific performers in the early years of varsity women’s basketball.  She played varsity as a freshman in 1975 and continued for all four years.  Merritt had many accomplishments throughout the course of her career, finishing as the team’s all-time leading scorer with over 1,000 points.  She served as co-captain and was a two-time Most Valuable Player selection.  Known for her accurate outside shot and her ability to perform well under pressure, Merritt was the team’s leading or second-leading scorer in each of her four seasons at Kutztown.  She was named one of Kutztown’s top female athletes of the 1970s by the University.  Merritt graduated from Kutztown in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in education and in 1980 with a master’s in aesthetics education.  She is a native of Lake Ariel and a graduate of Western Wayne High School.
