Mike Riley (1983) was a three-year starter in football as a defensive back, lettered four years in track and was the sixth man on the 1981-82 Golden Bear cage squad. Riley had 11 career interceptions on the gridiron, tied the school record for interceptions in a game (three), and was a starter on the 1980 football team that played in its first PSAC state championship game. He later signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in 1982, but a fractured wrist cut short a pro-career. In track Riley placed in the top six in the state, his final three years in the discus. Named the school’s top athlete in 1982, Riley earned nine letters with eight coming in football and track. Riley teaches in the Reading School District and is the high school’s girls’ basketball coach.
