Steve Head, 6-1, 220 lbs. offensive guard, was a devastating blocker on end sweeps and options. He led Kutztown ball carriers to over 5,500 yards rushing in his three years.
Head was a First Team All-Pennsylvania Conference choice for three years running. He was a two-time All-ECAC selection and a First Team All-American by the AFCA and the Associated Press in 1977. He was co-captain in 1977, a fine leader, and an excellent student.
After his playing days at KU, Head was an assistant coach for KU's junior varsity team in 1978, and the varsity offensive line coach in 1979.
Head was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in 1978 and to the New York Jets in 1979. He was the third member of the Golden Bears to ink a pro contract as a free agent since 1974 when Doug Dennison went to the Dallas Cowboys.
