This was the first year that Dennison became eligible for the Hall (a person must be out of school five years). Dennison’s brilliant career at KSC principally covered only two but he became the Golden Bears’ super return man for kickoffs and punts. His high-stepping moves on sweeps and over tackles caught the eyes of the pros. Dennison was deprived of becoming the first KSC player to rush over 1,000 yards in his senior because of a knee injury. But his 6.4 yards per carry that year has been the best effort to date. As a free agent, he not only won a position with the Dallas Cowboys, but won a starting position to lead the team in rushing after two seasons. The 6-2, 205-pounder is considered by Coach Tom Landy: “the best guy I know to give a football to on the goal line or short yardage.” Dennison had been chosen the “best conditioned rookie” at the Dallas camp, and each of his succeeding years he has been chosen the “best conditioned player.” He also received in Dallas the “Christian Athlete” award. Doug returns to Lancaster where he helps the “Boys Club” and has done some special work at the Lancaster County Prison.
