The multi-talented Gina (Walker) Novak (’85) excelled in softball, field hockey and lacrosse. She is remembered most, however, for her achievements as a center fielder on the diamond. As a freshman, she led the Golden Bears in batting average (.429), hits (27), extra base hits (9), and runs batted in (26). She received the Outstanding Freshman Award, and Offensive Player of the Year Award. As a sophomore, she again led the team in hits (29), runs (23), and home runs (2), while compiling a .299 batting average. She led the Golden Bears to a 23-9 record and the Pennsylvania Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (PAIAW) Conference Championships. The team went on to compete in the NCAA tournament and placed second in the Eastern Region. As a back for the field hockey team, her strong defensive play helped the Golden Bears advance to two appearances in the NCAA Championships. As a senior, she was selected to the All-PSAC team. Novak has been a member of the Topton VIP’s major fast pitch softball team for the past 12 seasons. Presently, she is a teacher at Smoketown Elementary in Conestoga Valley School District in Lancaster, PA. she is also an assistant varsity field hockey coach and head varsity softball coach in the Conestoga Valley School District.
