Denny McKernan ’68 was honored for his prowess on the baseball field and basketball court. MeKernan is the ninth leading scorer career wise in basketball (1111 points) and a two-year first team PS East selection. On the diamond McKernan was a first baseman who never hit under .500 in baseball for his career. A two-time first team All-Conference choice McKernan helped lead the Golden Bears to their first PSAC baseball state championship in 1966 and appearance in the NAIA District baseball playoffs. McKernan signed a professional baseball contract with the now Oakland Athletics organization where he played minor league baseball for three seasons. McKernan continued his athletic career as a coach in the Owen J. Roberts school district as head baseball coach (nine years) and head basketball boss (seven years). He holds the season and career marks for most wins by a basketball coach.
