Kyle was a three-year starter at Kutztown playing both offensive and defensive tackle. Kyle was named the team’s most valuable player as a sophomore and junior. As a sophomore he was an All-Pennsylvania Conference honorable mention choice and was selected to the first team both ways as a junior. Following graduation in January, 1961, Kyle became the first Kutztown player to sign a free-agent contract as he joined the Baltimore Colts in 1962. He played the exhibition season before a leg injury forced his release. Kyle later had tryouts with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Rams, and Detroit Lions and played semi-professional football. It was as a college coach and university professor that Kyle went on to achieve success after leaving Kutztown. Kyle has been on the football staff at Tabor College for the past 19 years serving the last 18 as defensive coordinator. Kyle, who is a professor of history and religion at Tabor, holds four advanced degrees. He has a master’s degree in history from Temple, a master’s in divinity from Denver Seminary (1968), a master’s in theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and a doctorate in history from the University of New Mexico (1972). Kyle is an author of three books and has published over 55 articles in his field.
