George Baldwin took over the struggling KU football program in 1973 and became the winningest coach in school history. He compiled a record of 61-71-3 and led KU to six winning seasons, including a school-best 7-2 in 1977. He led the Golden Bears to their only Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division title in 1980. He sent several of his players to NFL camps, including running back Bruce Harper and Doug Dennison, and wide receiver Andre Reed. Harper and Dennison had successful careers with the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys respectively in the 1970’s. Reed has earned All-Pro status with the Buffalo Bills and has played in the last three Super Bowls. Baldwin graduated from Bowling Green (OH) in 1947 and coached for 41 years before his retirement from KU in 1987. He had an outstanding 69-26-4 record and captured six state championships in 11 seasons at Morrow (NJ) High School (1948-62). He had coaching stints at Bloomfield (NJ) High School and in the Englewood School District before heading to West Chester University for six years as an assistant coach. He held several semi-pro coaching jobs and spent the 1984 season with the New England Patriots as an offensive assistant. He currently resides in Ormand Beach, FL.
