Kutztown MXC finishes season with top ten finish at NCAA Regionals

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's cross country team ran to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon, ending the season with their first 10k run at the West Branch Cross Country Course on the campus of Lock Haven University.

The Golden Bears finished with 196 points in their longest outing of the season, one that saw quite the shakeup in the Atlantic Region's top seven teams. Despite Kutztown having one of the closest groups of finishers (23 runners between KU's first and fifth place competitors), the strong field kept the Maroon and Gold out of the front of the pack as they looked to back up their fifth place regional ranking from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA).

The front three runners for Kutztown finished within five seconds of each other, as sophomore Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) (32:03.8, 31st), senior Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) (32:04.5, 32nd) and sophomore Willie Wiles (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) (32:08.8, 34th) led the way for the Golden Bears. Senior Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) (32:35.8, 50th) and junior Robby Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) (32:46.5, 54th) rounded out the team's top five runners.

Small's team-leading mark gave him a personal best in the 10k race, eclipsing his 32:25.1 mark from last year's NCAA Regional meet.

Shippensburg (60 points) upset Charleston (W.V.) (62) for the top spot by two points, thanks to a pair of top-five runners for the Raiders. Davis & Elkins (100) claimed third, while Fayetteville State (101) put a pair of sophomore finishers in the top two spots on their way to a fourth-place finish. East Stroudsburg (146) rounded out the top five.

As Shippensburg, Charleston (W.V.) and Davis & Elkins make the trip to the NCAA DII Championships later this month, so too do Brian Kiprop and Franklin Kipchirchir of Fayetteville State, and fourth-place Mike Formica of Indiana (Pa.) as the top three individual qualifiers.

The Golden Bears look ahead to the 2026 season after finishing the year with a pair of top finishes at regular-season meets and strong regional rankings throughout the 2025 season.
