COATESVILLE, Pa. – After almost a month break from competition, Kutztown men's cross country hit the trail with a bang as it finished atop the leaderboard of the West Chester University Golden Ram Open Saturday afternoon at the Plantation Cross Country Course in Coatesville.
It was the first victory of the season for KU in just its third meet. The Golden Bears last raced at their annual Division II/III Challenge back on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they placed second overall. They were supposed to compete last weekend at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University, but weather conditions canceled their race.
Robby Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the lineup with a second place finish out of 60 runners. Four other Golden Bears crossed the finish line within the top 10 of the field, including
Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown),
Weston Fry (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville),
Ryan Fach (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus),
Willie Wiles (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and
Aiden Hoffman (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run).
Cole Doms (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling),
Sean Carpenter (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) and
Connor Murphy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) all had top-20 finishes and
Ryan Kenneff (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and James Morton rounded out the lineup for the Maroon and Gold.
Kutztown is scheduled to compete in its final meet of the regular season in two weeks as it will run in the Go Fast River Run race at the West Branch Cross Country course, hosted by Lock Haven University on Saturday, Oct. 24. Race is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m.
