GRANTHAM, Pa. -- Freshman
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) collected wins in doubles and singles play but the Kutztown University women's tennis team couldn't overcome a pair of defaulted matches in a 5-2 non-conference loss at Messiah on Saturday.
The host Falcons (1-2) needed just one win to take the doubles point after Kutztown had to default at No. 3. They quickly secured it with a 6-1 decision at No. 2. Kutztown's de Nadai and
Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) were victorious at first doubles, 6-4, over Bella Heckman and Kylie Walker.
After a default at No. 6 singles, Kutztown (1-1) briefly tied the match, 2-2, with de Nadai defeating Jocelyn Valdez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and
Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) topping Walker 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.
Messiah pulled back in front with a hard-fought point from No. 1 Kiara Bomboy. Bomboy held off KU's Semery 7-5, 6-4.
The Falcons clinched the match on Katelyn Good's 6-0, 6-0 win over
Gabby Gentile (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) at No. 5, before Heckman beat
Ryleigh Bohning (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 at No. 4.
Kutztown will continue a busy stretch of three matches in three days tomorrow at Chestnut Hill. Match time is set for noon.
