CLARION, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory at PSAC West foe Clarion for its first win of the 2025-26 campaign, Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) and freshman
Maddie Gilbert (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) were winners in both singles and doubles play for the Golden Bears (1-1), while
Gabby Gentile (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and
Kendra Yerger (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) won in singles.
Clarion (1-3) was unable to field a full lineup for the non-conference affair, defaulting matches at third doubles and sixth singles. That left KU with just a single match to win for the doubles point, which they got from de Nadai and Gilbert, 6-1, over Davan Lion and Polia Vladeva at No. 1.
Ryleigh Bohning (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Gentile competed hard to try and complete the doubles sweep, but fell to Emily McMahan and Taelyn Thomas, 7-5, at No. 2.
Kutztown built upon its doubles point by securing the first five singles points to put the match out of reach.
Gilbert swept Vladeva 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 ahead of de Nadai's 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Lion at No. 1.
Yerger's 6-2, 6-2 victory over Abby Rodgers at No. 5 clinched the match for the Maroon and Gold.
Gentile outlasted Thomas in a first set tiebreaker before completing the straight set win at No. 4, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Bohning went to a super tiebreaker at No. 3 in a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-4 defeat against McMahan.
Kutztown will stop in Lock Haven on its return trip to campus tomorrow to face the Bald Eagles at noon.
