LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Kutztown closed out its PSAC East schedule with a 7-0 shutout victory over homestanding Lock Haven Friday afternoon at the LHU Tennis Courts.
The Golden Bears doubled up the Bald Eagles at first and third doubles to take the lone available point. KU's top team of
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) downed Maddy Reeves and Mia Shuler, 6-3, while
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) defeated Joaquina Orlandini and Sarah Cleary by the same score.
Kutztown (4-10, 3-4 PSAC East) swept all three flights behind a 6-4 win from
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) over Delani Wolever and Christy McLean at No. 2.
Convincing straight set wins from No. 3 Marks (6-1, 6-0 over Wolever), No. 5 Wendling (6-2, 6-0 over Olivia Sharp) and No. 2 Maher (6-3, 6-1 over Shuler) in singles quickly locked up the match victory for the Maroon and Gold.
Lazarchak won fourth singles against LHU's (3-9, 1-5 PSAC East) McLean 6-1, 6-2 and Klo held off Orlandini at No. 6 by a 7-5, 7-5 score.
The only flight to go three sets was No. 1, where Makarski withstood a comeback bid from Reeves to win in a super tiebreaker 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.
Kutztown will try to end the season with three straight wins when it hosts Davis & Elkins tomorrow at 2 p.m.
