MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Millersville completed its Saturday sweep of Kutztown's tennis teams when the Marauder women, defending PSAC runners-up, defeated the Golden Bears 7-0 in a PSAC East match on the McComsey Courts.
Kutztown was in all three doubles matches, but just couldn't get over the hump and gain necessary momentum. The Bears' No. 2 team of
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) fell by a 6-4 score to Jasmine Morris and Kelsey Heckert, while
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) met the same fate at No. 3 against Chloe Abramowitz and Aneesa Malik.
In the top flight match, Millersville's (8-5, 2-0 PSAC East) Julie Wallace and Noelle Htwar doubled up KU's
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) and
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic), 6-3.
Maher hung tough in her first singles meeting with Morris, but fell 6-3, 6-2. Makarski forced a tiebreaker in the second set against Maria Ojeda at No. 2, but Ojeda won all seven points and took the match in straight sets 6-0, 7-6 (0).
The Marauders' depth was on display as they ceded just three games to Kutztown (1-7, 1-2 PSAC East) between flights three and six.
Kutztown returns to the Keystone Courts Tuesday to face conference foe East Stroudsburg at 3 p.m.
