KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown women's tennis competed on the Keystone Courts for the first time this spring, Tuesday, but didn't spend much time there. The Golden Bears ripped thorugh doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets, dispatching visiting East Stroudsburg, 7-0, in just under an hour and a half.
With the victory, KU evened its PSAC East record at 2-2 (2-7 overall), while the Warriors dropped to 0-3 (0-3 overall) on the season.
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) got the Bears off on the right foot, winning their team-leading fourth doubles match of the season with a 6-0 whitewash of Emma Wiedbrauk and Mady Cruz at No. 3.
Kutztown's top two doubles teams only dropped one game apiece, with
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) downing Samantha Passmore and Jessica Passmore, 6-1, in the flight one match, and
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) doing the same to Sherin Paul and Sophie Golden at No. 2.
In singles play, Marks defeated Paul at No. 3, Wendling won over Wiedbrauk at No. 5 and Klo topped Cruz at No. 6, all by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores.
No. 2 Maher and No. 4 Lazarchak put up 6-1, 6-0 victories over Jessica Passmore and Golden, respectively.
Makarski finished off the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Samantha Passmore at No. 1.
Kutztown will try to put together its first winning streak of the season when it steps out of conference to face The College of New Jersey on the road Sunday at noon.
