WEST CHESTER, Pa. --The Kutztown University women's soccer team (8-4-3, 7-4-3) battled fiercely for 90 minutes, but ultimately fell to No. 2 West Chester (15-0-0, 14-0-0) 2-0 at Rockwell Field Saturday afternoon.
A 10th-minute goal from Faith Matter and a 53rd-minute strike from Kaitlynn Haughey along with two assists from Jacqueline Hug proved to be the difference in the contest.
The Golden Bears didn't go quietly in the game, outshooting the Golden Rams in the shots on goal department 8-6. Kylee MacLeod (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and Isabella Rossetti (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) both registered two shots on goal in the game for KU. Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) made four saves in net for KU, while Hayley McGee made seven saves for West Chester.
The Golden Bears suffered only their third defeat of the season and the second in the last eight games. Despite the defeat, the Golden Bears still sit in a prime position to clinch a spot in the PSAC Tournament following a 2-2 draw between Shippensburg and Lock Haven later in the afternoon.
KU will look to seal the deal and clinch a postseason birth on the road this Wednesday, Oct. 26, against Lock Haven. That game will kick off at 4 p.m.
