ATHENS, W. Va. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team opened its 2025 campaign with a commanding, 4-1 victory over the Concord Mountain Lions on Thursday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium.
The Golden Bears (1-0 overall) were led by a three-goal performance from senior forward
Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East), with another strike from senior
Skyler Jordan (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) in the 70th minute. KU held a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play, as a McDonald's first-half brace was split by a Concord (0-1 overall) goal at the 13th minute to tie the game for two minutes.
Kutztown waited to extend its lead until the 70th-minute goal from Jordan by way of
Maura Day (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington), and McDonald landed the game's final strike a minute later off a feed from forward
Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek).
Goalkeeper
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) made four saves to open the season in the net for KU, while six new starters took the field for head coach
Erik Burstein in his 18th season leading the Maroon and Gold.
Kutztown led the charge in shots (15-14), while dominating the game in shots on goal (7-5) and corner kicks (9-7).
The Golden Bears open up conference play on the road against the Mansfield Mountaineers on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. before returning to Keystone Field on Wednesday, Sept. 10, for a game against Millersville at 7 p.m.
