MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team controlled both ends of the field from the first whistle in a 5-0 victory over the Mansfield Mountaineers in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division play on Saturday afternoon.
In another fast start for the Golden Bears (2-0, 1-0 PSAC East), its first two goals came within moments of each other in the first 20 minutes of play. The pressure kept coming from the Kutztown attack, as it placed nine of 11 shots on goal in the first half against the Mountaineers (0-2, 0-1 PSAC East), finishing with 20 shots on goal and 32 shots overall in their conference opener.
Rookie defender Sarah Erb (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) converted on her first career goal in the 15th minute of play on an assist from Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek), and before Mansfield could regroup, Morgan was able to turn around and send one through the net just over a minute later.
The relentless pressure by the Maroon and Gold continued into the second half, paying off for sophomore forward Regan Curabba (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley), who tallied the first goal of her career 53 minutes into the game. First-year players Autumn Oestringer (Dunkirk, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Jenna Piltz (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) concluded the scoring with goals of their own at 70 and 84 minutes, respectively.
The last time the Golden Bears scored at least five goals and shut out their opponent was in a 5-0 win against Mansfield on September 10, 2022, while the most recent game with five different KU goal scorers was in a 5-1 win over Mansfield on October 30, 2021, at Keystone Field.
KU led the game in shots and shots on goal, as well as corner kicks (5-0), while holding their opponent to just one off-target shot on the day.
Kutztown will welcome the Millersville Marauders to Keystone Field on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. for their home opener before heading back on the road for a meeting with Lock Haven on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2:30 p.m.
