HERSHEY, Pa. – Sophomore
Jillian Jones (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) shot a score of 76, which tied for third, to lead the Kutztown University women's golf team on Friday afternoon in its first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Hershey Country Club.
The Golden Bears are fourth out of nine conference teams after day one with a season-low total score of 333 (+49).
Jones, who entered the day with a season average of 80.4, has been playing her best golf of late. She tied her season-low with the 76, accomplished at KU's last tournament, the Alvernia Fall Invitational on Oct. 9. The score is just one shot shy of the KU record on a par 71. Her third place finish was out of 44 overall golfers. She sits five strokes behind the leader.
Senior
Rebecca Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) had the second-best KU score of the day, firing a round of 84, to place in a tie for 16th.
The final three Kutztown competitors all finished back-to-back-to-back and inside of the top-22 overall on the leaderboard.
Rachel Tarnopoll (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) tallied a first round score of an 86 for 21st place, followed by
Hannah Amos (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) and
Annalia Kostow (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) both of whom shot an 87 for 22nd-place finishes.
West Chester is in first with a score of 307, followed by Mercyhurst (323) and Gannon (327) in second and third respectively. KU holds a six stroke lead over fifth-place Millersville (339).
Action on day two begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 20.
