Kutztown finishes fifth at Michael Corbett Fall Classic

ERIE, Pa. – A trio of Kutztown golfers improved upon their opening day scores on the final day of competition as the Golden Bear women's golf team wrapped up play Monday with a fifth-place finish at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic, hosted by Gannon University at Whispering Woods Golf Club.

Brooke Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) once again led the team with 11 pars and posted two birdies during a three-hole stretch between Nos. 4-6. The third-year Golden Bear was even par through the front nine, adding five pars on the way in to finish 7-over 79 for the round. Her 36-hole score of 159 (80-79) was good for a 12th-place finish.

Freshman Livia Andov (Pekanbaru, Indonesia/) opened 1-over par on the front nine after recording birdies on No. 2, a 155-yard par 3, and No. 5, a 285-yard par 4. The Indonesia native finished with another birdie on No. 16, a par 4 playing at 295 yards to end the day with a career-best 4-over 76. Andov moved up eight spots to 18th overall with a two-day total of 164 (88-76).

Eva Moawad (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) carded nearly identical scores on the front and back sides of the course in the final round, opening with five pars to make the turn at 5-over 40 before rattling off six straight holes of par or better on Nos. 12-17 to finish 9-over 81 on the afternoon, an 11-stroke improvement from the opening day that shot her up 10 positions to 25th in the final standings.

Junior Grace Klements (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Pinelands Regional) carded a birdie on the 285-yard, par-4 fifth hole before capping off the day with a 91 for a two-day total of 175 (84-91), while senior Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West) notched five pars on the front nine on her way to a final round 92 and a 182 (90-92) for the tournament.

The Golden Bears shot 669 (342-327) to finish fifth out of ten teams, with host Gannon (301-301=602) claiming the tournament crown. Walsh (308-321=629) finished 20 strokes behind the Golden Knights on the day, but held onto a second-place by a single stroke over Charleston (W.Va.)'s 'A' squad (311-319=630). Charleston's 'B' squad (320-330=650) and KU rounded out the top five.

Gannon put three players in the top five of the individual standings, including medalist Cloe Mateo, who finished 4-over 148 (75-73) across two days.

Kutztown will travel to Hanover Country Club in Abbottstown, Pa., this Saturday, Oct. 18, to compete in its final fall tournament, the Gettysburg Fall Invitational. Competition is scheduled to begin at noon.
