Women's golf opens play at Michael Corbett Fall Classic

ERIE, Pa. -- Three rounds in the 80s helped the Kutztown University women's golf team to fifth-place in the team standings following Sunday's opening round of the Michael Corbett Fall Classic at Whispering Woods Golf Club.

Brooke Graham (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) paved the way for the Maroon and Gold with an 8-over par 80 that included a birdie and team-high 11 pars. The junior from Carlisle, Pa., is 13th overall in the field of 51 players but just five shots back of the top five.

Grace Klements (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Pinelands Regional) tied her season-best round with an 84 behind two birdies and five pars. Both of her birdies came during a three-hole stretch, with the first coming on the par 3, 155-yard second. Klements added another birdie on No. 4, a par 4 playing at 266 yards and finished the day 20th on the leaderboard.

Freshman Livia Andov (Pekanbaru, Indonesia/) collected seven pars during her round of 88 to rank 26th. Gabby Cohen (Jeffersonville, N.Y./Sullivan West), coming off a career-best second-place showing at the Kutztown Fall Invitational last weekend, shot 90 with four pars. Newcomer Eva Moawad (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) matched Klements for the team lead in birdies with a pair, and got around the par 72, 5,803-yard course in 92.

Host Gannon took a seven shot lead at the conclusion of the opening round with a 13-over 301. The Golden Knights are trailed by Walsh (308, +20), Charleston (W.Va.)'s 'A' squad (311, +23) and 'B' squad (320, +32).

Alice Andersson, representing Charleston 'B', and Sydney Hugo from Walsh put forth rounds of 1-under 71 in rising to the top of the individual standings.

The final round is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m., Monday.
