MANSFIELD, Pa. – Kutztown University's men's 4x800m relay team made history for the second straight year at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Last year, a school-record was set. Saturday, that record was broken again in a title-winning run at Mansfield University.

As a team, Kutztown finished in fifth place for the second straight year. It marks KU's sixth-straight top-five finish at the PSAC Outdoor Championships.

Shippensburg won the men's title for the eighth straight year with 208.5 points. Slippery Rock finished second at 123, East Stroudsburg was third with 109, Indiana (PA) was fourth at 82 and KU rounded out the top-five with 76. For KU, it marked an increase of 14 points from last year.

The winning 4x800m run marked Kutztown's first-ever outdoor title in the event. KU's only other 4x800m title was at the 2006 Indoor Championships.

The quartet of Naeb Mengisteab (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley), Devonte King (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey), Andrew Thompson (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and Jared Luckanitz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) turned in the best relay of their careers Saturday. They won the race by more than two seconds with a final time of 7:45.28, breaking last year's school-record that Mengisteab and Thompson were a part of in a second-place run.

Breaking down the title run, Mengisteab opened the relay and made a surge on the last straightaway to hand off first in 1:56.85. King ran second and built a significant lead in a 1:55.53 split. Thompson ran third in 1:57.919 while maintaining the team's lead, and Luckanitz brought home the gold as the final leg in a team-best 1:54.977.

The win earned KU 10 team points.

Individually, Mengisteab posted his best-career finish in a championship 1500m. He crossed the line in fourth place in 3:58.66, improving upon his ninth-place run as a junior last year.

Sophomore Steve Maine (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) finished third in his first career Outdoor Championship 5000m run. His time was clocked at 15:01.83 for All-PSAC honors, Maine's second of the weekend after finishing second in the 10,000m Thursday night. He earned KU 14 points this weekend, eight in the 10K and six in the 5K.

Freshman Brandon Leacraft (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) earned All-PSAC honors in his first career conference championship. He placed third in the javelin at 185-09, the highest freshman finisher in the field, for six team points. He currently stands 22nd in Division II in the javelin, on the bubble for a national qualification. His brother, Bryan Leacraft (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), finished ninth with a season-best toss of 172-06.

Anthony Bullaro (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) turned in a fourth-place finish on Saturday. He competed in the finals of the 110m hurdles and finished fourth in 14.88 seconds. 2016 marked his first Outdoor Championship.

Jhaloni Johnson (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) and Ron Smith (Trevose, Pa./Neshaminy) both competed in their first career outdoor final of the 400m run. Johnson finished in fourth place in 49.44 seconds, one spot better than he ran in the indoor final in Feb., to earn KU five team points. Smith, a senior, finished a career-best eighth in the 400m in 50.92 seconds for an additional team point.

Johnson also ran in his first career final in the 200m Saturday. He finished a career-best sixth in 22.44 seconds for three points.

Kutztown's 4x100m relay team finished in sixth place in Saturday's final run, earning KU three points. The quartet was in excellent position to place, but a delayed handoff at the final exchange delayed the final straightaway to 43.18 seconds, one-second off its pace from Friday's prelims.

The day closed with the running of the 4x400m relay. KU's quartet of Tanner Lipsky (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth), Quran Cason (Philadelphia, Pa./Carver E&S), Smith and Johnson finished in fourth place in a season-best mark of 3:16.69, good for five team points.
