LYNCHBURG, Va. – Freshman
Andrew Szeplaki (Bath, Pa./Northampton) moved atop Kutztown University's record book in the outdoor pole vault and won the event as the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational got underway at the University of Lynchburg, Friday.
Â
Szeplaki burst on the scene during the indoor season, setting school and PSAC records on his way to a conference championship and All-America Second Team honors. After his most recent performance, the Bath, Pa., native now owns both the indoor and outdoor program pole vault records.
Â
Szeplaki cleared 5.21m (17-1) to achieve PSAC Championships and NCAA DII Championships provisional qualifying marks. His mark is currently fifth best in NCAA Division II during the young outdoor season and breaks the former school record of 5.20m (17-0.75) held by KU hall of famer Paul Schmitt since the 2000 NCAA DII Outdoor Championships. Szeplaki also drew within one-half inch of the PSAC record of 5.22m (17-1.5) held by Slippery Rock's Drew Layton from 2025.
Â
For the second consecutive meet, senior
Kevin Givone (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard in the javelin. Givone's top throw of 63.12m (207-1) on Friday ranked second among 22 competitors.
Â
Robby Lloyd (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) joined the top 10 in the 10k with the sixth-fastest time in program history, finishing runner-up in 31:27.74. Teammate
Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) took third in 31:32.32. Both achieved PSAC qualifying cut times.
Â
Henry Cifaloglio (Vineland, N.J./Delsea Regional) placed fourth in the pole vault at 4.55m (14-11) and
Caleb Tryninewski (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was ninth at 4.40m (14-5.25). The duo cleared PSAC qualifying standards for the second time in as many weeks.
Â
In the 5k open,
Cole Doms (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) took third in 15:47.92 and
Weston Fry (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) was fourth in 15:49.74
Â
The Golden Bears continue their weekend at Lynchburg with a loaded lineup on Saturday.
