EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's track & field team wrapped up the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Championships at Edinboro University on Sunday afternoon in seventh place of 13 competing teams, an improvement by three spots from last year's indoor championships.

Over the two-day championship, 14 Golden Bears contributed to 40 team points. Tyler Brooks and Kutztown's 4x400 team led the way with six points each, vaulter Lanny Buck and KU's 4x800 team each brought in five team points, as thrower Chris Varichione and KU's DMR team from Saturday rounded out KU's top performers with four team points apiece.

Brooks earned the Golden Bears a day-high of six points on Sunday with a third-place finish in the triple jump, earning him All-PSAC honors. One day after he helped the KU men's basketball team win a PSAC First Round playoff game, Brooks equipped himself for the long ride out to Edinboro to compete in Sunday's triple jump competition. It was just the second time he has competed this season and finished with a mark of 46-5.50.

Brad Mayer turned in a gutsy performance in his heat of the 800m. Running in the slowest heat in the event, Mayer pulled through and won his heat of six runners in a career-best time of 1:56.74. It earned KU three points in the standings, and moved Mayer up to eighth all-time on the KU top-10 list.

Fellow distance runner Naeb Mengisteab also turned in his best career performance in his event. In the mile run, he finished 12th overall in 4:23.63, his lowest career time that ranks him seventh all-time at KU.

Sprinters Mike Burton and Quran Cason each earned KU two points in their respective final races. Burton, a freshman competing in the finals of the 60m hurdles, finished seventh in 8.49 seconds. Cason, a junior competing in the finals of the 60m dash, also finished seventh in the event in a time of 7.11 seconds.

Tyler Matunis and Colton Cryts wrapped up the heptathlon on Sunday. They finished close together in 10th and 11th, respectively. Both competitors had career-best final scores as Cryts' final total of 4080 ranks him fifth all-time at KU. Matunis had a career-best performance in the 60m hurdles of 8.59 seconds in a second-place finish, as Cryts' top finish was a fifth-place finish in the pole vault (13-1.75).

Kutztown's 4x400 team wrapped up the two-day championship with an All-PSAC run in the 4x400. The quartet of Ron Smith, Tristan Dickey, Tanner Lipsky and Cason finished third in the field with a time of 3:21.63, earning Kutztown six points in the final standings.

Buck remains the lone Golden Bear with an NCAA provisional mark this indoor season. He will learn later this week if he will compete at the NCAA National Championships on March 13-14 in Huntsville, Ala. Kutztown's outdoor season start on March 19 for multi competitors at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C., and on March 20 at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. for the remainder of the Golden Bears.
