Those with PSAC passes or students with PSAC school ID are admitted free of charge. The No. 4 seed, Kutztown (12-6, 7-3 PSAC) split the season series with No. 5 seed West Chester (15-3, 7-3). The Golden Rams were victorious in the first matchup, coming away with a 1-0 victory at Andre Reed Stadium, before KU won, 3-2, at West Chester.
The Golden Bears wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with a 3-2 loss at Indiana (Pa.). Prior to Indiana (Pa.), KU had lost to East Stroudsburg and Millersville, who, at the time were tied with each other for first in the national poll.
Despite three-straight losses, the team is focused and ready to face the challenge at hand. The Golden Bears even spoke with a sports psychologist in preparation for the postseason.
"I'm so proud of everything this team has accomplished this year," head coach
Marci Scheuing said. "Reaching the PSAC Playoffs has been our goal since I got here."
Great leadership from many players on the team has helped KU earn its most victories in a single season (12) since 2010.
"Building toward reaching the playoffs over the last few seasons has been outstanding and seeing the growth of our seniors like
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown),
Rayann Fink (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) and
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) has been unbelievable," Scheuing said. They have been such great leaders, and have really carried us to this point and I think their leadership will really stand out Tuesday night."
At forward, Behm has paced the Golden Bears offensively all season. The veteran ranks second in Division II in goals (1.24) and points (2.94) per game. Her 22 goals and 52 points this season are both second-best in KU single-season history.
Defensively, Denlinger has been stellar in the cage this season. She is third in Division II in save percentage (.829), ninth in goals against average (1.32), and 14th in saves per game (5.71).
"
Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and
Courtney Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) have been outstanding for us in the middle," Scheuing said. "They really are the glue that holds the whole system together so I'm looking for a big game out of the both of them as well.
"I think the atmosphere tomorrow night will be great," Scheuing continued. "West Chester is a great team and is local, and both teams have great followings. I think it will be a packed house. Both field hockey programs have storied traditions and have close relationships with their alumni following, so it should be a really great event."
