ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The No. 2-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team showed off its offensive depth Sunday afternoon, as eight different players found the back of the cage in an 8-0 road victory over Roberts Wesleyan. The win pushed the Golden Bears to 9-0 on the season.
The Golden Bears (9-0, 1-0 PSAC) recorded their fifth shutout of the year and have now piled up 61 goals and 41 assists through just nine games—numbers that already rank among the program's top-10 single-season totals.Â
KU continues to shine as both an offensive and defensive powerhouse. All eight goals came from different Golden Bears, with
Emma Yeager (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Rachel Galasso (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) each netting their first career tallies.Â
Kutztown set the tone early with three goals in the opening quarter.
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), coming off back-to-back game winners, opened the scoring, followed by strikes from
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) and
Sierra Jester (Felton, Del./Lake Forest).
After a scoreless second quarter, KU poured it on in the second half with five more goals—three in the third (
Ellie Myers (Denver, Pa./Cocalico),
Kaylee Zellers (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), and Yeager) and two in the fourth (Galasso and
Julia Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen)).
The defense was impenetrable once again, allowing just one shot and no corners to Roberts Wesleyan (4-3). On the other end, KU generated 41 shots and 17 corners in the commanding performance.
Kutztown now turns its focus to a top-three PSAC showdown, traveling to face No. 3 East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
