Women's Distance Runners Dominate at Armory on Friday

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Distance runners from the Kutztown University women's track and field team posted season-best marks to lead the way on Friday night at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games at the historic Armory in New York City.
 
Senior Jenn Cleary (Chesapeake City, MD/Bohemia Manor) won the mile in a season-best-tying mark of 5:10.44 that she previously set last weekend in Boston. She was one of three Golden Bears to finish in the top eight in existing Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks. Junior Frances McNally (Drexel Hill, Pa./Springfield) finished fifth in a season-best 5:13.47 and senior Jessica Huber (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) was eighth in 5:20.03.
 
Kutztown had eight runners earn season- or career-best marks in the 3000. Sophomore Corinne Manela (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) led the pack with a new PSAC-qualifying time of 10:39.13 to finish second overall. Jayme Daly (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) and McNally finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and both runners posted new qualifying marks. Daly finished in 10:40.47 and McNally crossed the line at 10:42.97.
 
Junior Molly MacDonald (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) was seventh in the 3000 and just missed a PSAC time by .62 seconds. She finished in a career-best 10:45.62 to round out Kutztown's four runners in the top 10. Elizabeth McLaughlin (Maple Glen, PA/Upper Dublin) (11:13.59), Katie Scharrenbroich (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) (11:21.01), Brianna Palumbo (11:28.05) and Emily Frank (Willow Street, Pa./Coatesville) (11:36.97) all finished in career-best marks in the event.
 
Carolyn Fergus (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) was Kutztown's lone runner in the 5000 and finished in a career-best time of 19:28.60.
 
Mikaila White (West Chester, PA/Spring-Ford) finished third in the 60m hurdles in an existing PSAC time of 9.19 seconds. Torrey Hollis (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) also posted an existing conference mark of 9.54 seconds to finish 15th.
 
Freshman Nicole Boldosser (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) led a quintet of Golden Bears in the 400 and finished 10th in an existing PSAC mark of 59.48.
 
Both of Kutztown's relay teams finished in season-best times. In the 4x400, Boldosser, White, Brandy Nice (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and Evan Dangerfield (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) finished ninth in 4:06.17. In the 4x800, Cleary, Huber, Ashley Bauer (Temple, PA/Muhlenberg) and Danielle Chaney (Philadelphia, PA/Upper Dublin) finished third in 9:54.45.
 
In the field events, senior Rosealine Farrell (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) won the weight throw with an existing PSAC mark of 52-09.75. Junior Nicole Wildermuth (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) was third in the weight throw at 46-08.25, also an existing PSAC mark. Wildermuth also had a season-best mark in the shot put (34-02.75).
 
Freshman Rebecca Tooker (Sandyston, NJ/Kittatinny) posted a new PSAC mark in the long jump. She finished seventh overall in 17-01.50 (5.22m).
 
In the high jump, Rachel Eshleman (Lancaster, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) finished fourth overall for her mark of 5-3, as Tooker finished 13th at 4-11. In the pole vault, Emma Sullivan (Phoenixville, PA/Methacton) (11-03.75) and Justine Ebbert (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) (10-4) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
The Golden Bears wrap up their regular season with one more opportunity to post additional conference-qualifying marks. Kutztown hosts its inaugural Last Chance Invitational at O'Pake Field House on Saturday, Feb. 22 beginning at 8 a.m.
