LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Kutztown women's tennis made it a two-win weekend with a 6-1 victory at Lock Haven in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears picked up back-to-back 6-1 decisions after defeating Clarion on Friday.
KU (2-1) got off to a quick start by sweeping the three doubles flights.
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) and
Maddie Gilbert (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) were 6-1 winners over Megan Ferris and Alaina Marchioni at No. 1, while
Kendra Yerger (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and
Alyson Witman (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) captured a win by the same score against Emily Brinker and Hope Lapinski at No. 3.
With the doubles point already secured,
Ryleigh Bohning (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and
Gabby Gentile (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took care of Maci Rohrbach and Breanna Chicas, 6-4, at No. 2.
The Maroon and Gold continued to roll in singles, winning the first four decided matches to put the result out of reach.
Gentile started with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Chicas at No. 4. De Nadai turned back Ferris 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 and Yerger claimed the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Brinker at No. 5.
Ashlyn Phy (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) defeated Maggie Blasetti 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6, for her first collegiate singles win and Gilbert registered KU's final point with a 6-3, 6-3 straight set victory over Rohrbach at No. 2.
Kutztown is expected to have entries in the ITA Atlantic Region Championships at Bloomsburg University starting Oct. 2, before resuming its fall dual schedule at Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
