BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's tennis was blanked by Bloomsburg, 7-0, in a PSAC East match at the Burt Reese Tennis Center Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (4-9, 2-2 PSAC East) battled hard throughout the match, with
Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) and
Isabela de Nadai (Vitoria, Brazil/St. Paul's School) taking their singles matches to three sets.
Bloomsburg (10-2, 3-0 PSAC East) swept doubles but not before
Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) and de Nadai threw a scare into Alexis Quackenbush and Nicole Ilkovic in a 7-5 defeat at No. 1. Semery and
Ximena Bolanos (Mineral de la Reforma, Mexico/Colegio Makarenko) also pushed Dasha Nakonechna and Lia-Sophie Seele at No. 2 in a 6-3 defeat.
The host Huskies dropped only two games in picking up the three necessary singles points at No. 6, No. 5 and No. 4 to claim the match. Bloomsburg also got a straight set victory at No. 2 to make it 5-0.
Semery and de Nadai both rallied from first set losses to force deciding super tiebreakers. Semery fell to Quackenbush 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 at first singles, while de Nadai was topped by Jennifer McDonald 6-3, 6-7 (6), 10-7 at No. 3.
Kutztown returns home Saturday at noon to face Molloy on Senior Day in its final non-conference match of the season. The Golden Bears also announced that their previously postponed PSAC East match at East Stroudsburg has been rescheduled for Friday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m.
