Kirkpatrick doubles up on awards and receives NFHCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore defender Olivia Kirkpatrick (Annville, Pa./Palmyra) of No. 1 Kutztown took two awards this week on the conference level and national level as she was voted this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II Defensive Player of the Week, announced Wednesday.

Kirkpatrick is the center back for KU, which ranks second in the nation in goals allowed (10). She had one of her best weeks in Maroon and Gold last week and was voted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday.

Kirkpatrick contributed on both sides of the field as she scored a goal in all three of Kutztown's victories last week and allowed just eight shots and two goals in a 3-0 week.

She scored the opening goal of a 2-0 win at No. 10 Millersville last Wednesday, earned a penalty stroke goal in the 8-1 win at Frostburg State on Saturday and then tallied the second goal of a 4-1 win against Maryville.

Kutztown concludes its regular season this Saturday, Nov. 1, when it hosts No. 2 Shippensburg at 5 p.m., from Andre Reed Stadium. KU locked up the top seed in the PSAC Tournament and will host the final four, with its semifinal game next Friday, Nov. 7.
