No. 1 Kutztown stays perfect, tops Maryville 4–1

FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 1-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team continued its unbeaten streak, improving to a perfect 17-0 on the season with a 4-1 win at Maryville on Sunday afternoon.

The 17 victories continues the new program record for both the best start and longest win streak in a single season. The Golden Bears have now tied for the third-most wins in a season (17, previously set in 2007) and are chasing the all-time record of 19, achieved during their 2023 NCAA Championship campaign.

All four of Kutztown's goals came off successful penalty corner conversions, as the Bears earned 17 corners throughout the contest.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Bears (17-0, 8-0 PSAC) broke through late in the second. Midfielder Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) opened the scoring off an insert from Julia Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), giving KU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Kutztown added two more goals in the third quarter. Defender Olivia Kirkpatrick (Annville, Pa./Palmyra) extended her scoring streak to three straight games, finishing off a setup from Harrold, who leads the team with 11 assists. Maryville (8-5) managed its lone corner, shot, and goal of the game between KU's third-quarter tallies.

Moments later, Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) made it 3-1, notching her ninth goal of the season off a feed from Olivia Vaccari (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), who would add one of her own in the fourth quarter. With 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Vaccari scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Rachel Galasso (Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman), capping the 4-1 victory. Both Harrold and Vaccari finished the afternoon with three points apiece.

The PSAC regular-season champion Golden Bears now turn their attention to their final regular-season matchup — a top-two showdown against No. 2-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 5:00 p.m.
