MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The top-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to 15 straight games Wednesday night, defeating No. 10 Millersville, 2-0, on the road for its ninth shutout of the season.
This was the second meeting between the two teams this year, with KU (15-0, 7-0 PSAC) earning a 2-1 overtime win over the Marauders (7-8, 3-4 PSAC) back on Sept. 24. This time, the Golden Bears kept Millersville off the scoreboard for the entire 60 minutes, marking their ninth shutout of the year—the fourth-most in program history in a single season.
Freshman goalie
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) continued her standout debut season with her eighth shutout of the season, tied for third all-time in a season at KU.
Kutztown continues to rewrite its record book, now sitting at 15-0 overall with 81 goals and 55 assists—each marking new single-season program records. The 15 wins rank fifth-most all-time, as KU chases the program record of 19 victories set during its 2023 national championship season.
Both of KU's goals came in the final seconds of the first and third quarters.
The first came with just 11 seconds left in the opening frame, as KU capitalized on its third consecutive penalty corner.
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot), the reigning NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week and PSAC Athlete of the Week, inserted a pass to
Olivia Kirkpatrick (Annville, Pa./Palmyra), who ripped a shot from the top of the circle for her fourth goal of the season.
Taylor Vaccaro (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) added insurance with one second remaining in the third quarter, netting her sixth goal of the season and extending her scoring streak to three straight games. The play developed off a long pass from
Marissa Rice (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), which Vaccaro redirected past the Millersville goalie.
The matchup was physical from start to finish, featuring seven total cards, five of which were assessed to Millersville. Kutztown controlled the tempo throughout, generating 13 penalty corners to Millersville's six and outshooting the Marauders 8-3. Adolf faced just one shot on goal, turning it aside to preserve the shutout.
The Golden Bears remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Maryland for a pair of games. KU faces Frostburg State in a PSAC game on Saturday at 1 p.m. before taking on Maryville at Frostburg in non-conference action on Sunday at 1 p.m.
