FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 1-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team extended its perfect season to 16-0 Saturday afternoon, defeating Frostburg State 8-1 on the road to officially clinch the PSAC regular-season title.
The Bears (16-0, 8-0 PSAC) continue to build on their historic campaign, extending program records for both the best start and longest winning streak in team history. Their 16 victories tie for the fourth-most in a single season, as KU continues its chase toward the program record of 19 wins set in 2023.
The Traynor sisters—Jessica, Julia, and Jade—combined for 10 total points, contributing four goals and two assists. Julia led the way with a hat trick and one assist, marking a career day for the freshman.
Kutztown wasted no time getting on the board, as
Ellie Myers (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored just 2:28 into the contest.
Paige Bucher (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) sent a hard pass into the circle, which Myers redirected around the Frostburg (3-13, 1-7 PSAC) goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
The next two goals showcased the Traynor connection. With 4:38 left in the first quarter,
Julia Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) found her twin
Jade Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) with a cross-cage pass for KU's second goal. Late in the second quarter, Julia scored one of her own off a setup from their older sister and team captain,
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), extending the Bears' lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Just 59 seconds into the third quarter, Kutztown struck again. After a Traynor shot was blocked by a defender's foot,
Olivia Kirkpatrick (Annville, Pa./Palmyra) converted the ensuing penalty stroke with a high finish to make it 4-0.
The Bears exploded for four goals in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Myers netted her second goal 3:14 into the frame off a cross from
Taylor Vaccaro (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley), while
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) followed with a turnaround shot from the top of the circle five minutes later. Julia capped off the day with two more goals, completing her hat trick and setting a new career high.
Goalkeepers
Tess Adolf (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence),
Alaina Telenko (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), and
Lorelai Lehenky (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) all saw time in the cage, with Adolf facing two shots and stopping both. Lehenky made her first appearance since a preseason injury, while
Marlee Fetrow (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) also returned to action for the first time since her injury against IUP on Sept. 17.
Kutztown dominated statistically, outshooting Frostburg 24-4 and earning 14 penalty corners to the Bobcats' three.
The Golden Bears wrap up their weekend road trip in Maryland on Sunday, taking on Maryville at 1 p.m. in their final regular-season road game.
