Golden Bears blank East Stroudsburg, 7-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University women's tennis picked up its third win in four PSAC East matches, Tuesday, shutting out East Stroudsburg, 7-0, at the Keystone Courts.

With the Warriors unable to field a full lineup, the Golden Bears were already at an advantage through victories by default at third doubles and sixth singles. Kutztown showed its superiority over ESU in the remaining matches, however.

Alejandra Vera (Manta, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Particular) and Emma Semery (Fuveau, France/HDN Academy) defeated Samantha Passmore and Katrina Ricci, 6-1, at first doubles, while Bieke Roovers (Leiden, Netherlands/Leonardo College) and Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) topped Alessia Bianchini and Sherin Paul by the same score at No. 2 to complete the doubles sweep.

Kutztown (6-4, 3-1 PSAC East) had no issues in singles, either. Wyatt Pauley's squad won all five contested flights in straight sets and dropped no more than two games in any set.

Lazarchak turned back Jazmine Parker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 4 Ava Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) blanked Ricci 6-0, 6-0 to push the Bears' lead to 3-0. Roovers secured the match win for KU with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bianchini at No. 2.

Semery closed out Paul 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Vera beat Passmore 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 to put the finishing touches on the shutout.

Kutztown's victory over ESU was its fourth in a row dating back to 2019.

The Golden Bears will start a run of three straight non-conference matches tomorrow at Division III Goucher. Match time is 1 p.m.
