SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.-- Strong performances from Owen Weaver (Baldwinsville, Pa./C.W. Baker) and Cody Schabener (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) helped the Kutztown University men's track & field team to a solid showing on the second day of the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships hosted at Slippery Rock Friday afternoon. 

Weaver wrapped up the decathlon with a fourth-place finish in the 1500m and a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles, which was enough for 5858 total points, placing him sixth as he earned two points for KU. Schabener scored for KU in the 3000m steeplechase final, finishing sixth and earning the Golden Bears three points. 

Three Golden Bears qualified for individual finals with their performances on Saturday. Kyle Love (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) finished fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.03, while James Washburn (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.21. Michael Fellin (Sheppton, Pa./Marian Catholic) was the other runner to qualify for a final, placing eighth with a time of 21.82 in the 200m. That time was also the ninth-fastest in KU history. All three will compete in their finals on Saturday.

On the men's side, Shippensburg has a commanding lead with 80 points, 41.5 more than second-place East Stroudsburg. Slippery Rock, California (Pa.), and Lock Haven round out the current top five.

The third and final day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships kicks off tomorrow, Saturday, May 13th at 11 a.m. from Slippery Rock.
