SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kutztown University men's track & field received the second-fastest time in program history from its 4x100 meter relay team and had
Trey Hamlin III (Townsend, Del./Caravel Academy) capture bronze in the long jump, Friday, at the PSAC Outdoor Championships.
The 4x100m relay comprised of
Sean Singleton (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
James Washburn (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River),
Steele Wrigley (Coatesville, Pa./Octorara) and
Daron Haggans (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) put forth a 40.97 to rank third in prelims and qualify for Saturday's final. Washburn, Wrigley and Haggans were part of Kutztown's record-setting relay (40.68) back in March at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational at Lynchburg and came within three-tenths of the record with Singleton added to the fold.
Hamlin III continued his stellar freshman season with his second PSAC medal. After winning bronze in the indoor long jump, Hamlin III backed it up with bronze in the outdoor long jump. The Townsend, Del., native had a best jump of 7.21m (23-8), wind-aided, to earn All-PSAC Third Team honors and six points for the Maroon and Gold in the team standings.
Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) also scored for KU in the long jump, placing sixth with a wind-aided top jump of 7.09m (23-3.25).
Another newcomer,
Caleb Tryninewski (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), captured a sixth-place finish in the pole vault by clearing a season- and career-best 4.51m (14-9.50).
Washburn and
Kyle Love (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) pushed through to the finals in the 400m hurdles. Washburn ranked fourth in prelims with a time of 55.05, while Love grabbed the last finals spot in eighth with a 55.95.
Wrigley hustled around the track in 48.90 to put down the sixth-best 400m time in prelims and lock himself into Saturday's final.
Kutztown concluded Friday's events fifth of 13 teams in the standings with 17 points. East Stroudsburg (61.5) holds a three-point lead over host Slippery Rock (58.5), with Shippensburg third (45) and Lock Haven fourth (28).
Along with Friday's finals qualifiers, Kutztown will have representation in the 1500m, 5000m, 4x400m relay, high jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin on Saturday when action begins at 11 a.m.
