Solonoski places fourth in hammer throw to earn first points for Golden Bears at PSAC Outdoor Championships

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Senior Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) moved into second place all-time on Kutztown University's hammer throw top 10 by finishing fourth in the event as the 2025 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships got underway at Slippery Rock University on Thursday.

Solonoski came into the meet fifth on KU's top 10, but blew past his previous personal best by more than eight feet with a new top throw of 56.46m (185-3). The Weatherly, Pa., native moved within 2-feet, 2-inches of Chris Boutsikaris' school record of 57.13m (187-5) set back at the 2009 PSAC Outdoor Championships. Solonoski's finished earned Kutztown five points in the team standings.

The Maroon and Gold narrowly missed adding to their point total with a duo of runners finishing in the top 10 of the 10,000 meters. Freshman Peyton Small (Littlestown, Pa./Littlestown) advanced all the way from 17th to as high as seventh before taking ninth in a personal best time of 31:31.86 --sixth-fastest in program history. Teammate Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) ran as high as third for much of the first half of the race and came home in 10th right on the heels of Small. Hollar also turned in a new PR with a 31:34.06, which was good for seventh on the program's top 10 list.

Shippensburg pulled out to an early lead in the team standings with 23 points, six better than East Stroudsburg. Kutztown is currently seventh. Eight of 13 teams recorded points on the opening day of the meet.

Friday brings a full day of action with preliminary heats in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 400m hurdles and 4x100m relay. Events awarding points on day two that feature Kutztown athletes include the 3000m steeplechase, pole vault and long jump. Events will begin at 10 a.m.
