SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Kutztown University track & field team kicked off action at the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championship, hosted at Milhalik-Thompson Stadium on the campus of Slippery Rock University Thursday afternoon.

Freshman Owen Weaver (Baldwinsville, Pa./C.W. Baker) saw a lot of action on day one for KU, competing in five events for the decathlon. The Baldwinsville, Pa. native started off strong with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, before running a personal best time of 51.51 in the 400 meters, good enough for a fifth-place finish. He sits sixth out of 16 after day one of the events and concludes the decathlon tomorrow. 

Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) and Jason Staunton (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) were the other Golden Bears to compete during the day, taking part in the hammer throw event. Solonoski finished 12th, while Staunton finished 15th.

As a part of the nightcap, Jay Thompson (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser), Jack Hollar (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), and Jacob Huber (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) represented the men in the 10,000 meters, while Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) represented the women's squad in the same event. Hollar paced the men with a 13th-place finish, while D'Amelio finished sixth with a personal-best time of 38:21.28. D'Amelio notched the women's squad three points with her performance. 

Day two of the PSAC Outdoor Championships at Slippery Rock continues tomorrow, Friday, May 12th at 10:00 a.m.
