SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Kutztown women's tennis used wins in the last two singles flights to erase a 3-2 deficit and defeat Shepherd, 4-3, in a PSAC East match Friday at the Shepherd Tennis Complex.

Doubles favored the Maroon and Gold, where the second tandem of Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) handled Isabella Mascari and Anna Mooney, 6-2, and the third flight team of Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Angela Moncavage (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) shut out Charlotte Pardue and Kambria Kosanic, 6-0.

Shepherd (2-12, 0-6 PSAC East) showed strength at the top of its singles lineup, however, winning flights 1-3. The Rams were on the brink of their first league victory of the year, but Kutztown (6-8, 3-2 PSAC East) controlled flights 4-6 to pull out the victory.

After Ximena Bolanos held off Lazarchak at second singles 6-3, 7-6 (4), Wendling put KU back in front with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mooney at No. 4. No. 1 Marketa Beladova and No. 3 Mascari picked up back-to-back results to give the host Rams the lead for the first time, 3-2.

No. 6 Moncavage and No. 5 Klo dominated their matches, however, making short work of Shepherd's advantage. Moncavage blanked Andrea Navarrete 6-0, 6-0 to even the score at three and Klo finished it off with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Pardue.

With the win, Kutztown moved a half match up on Lock Haven for fourth-place in the Eastern Division. The top three will qualify for the PSAC Tournament. With West Chester and Bloomsburg already owning wins over KU, the Bears' next match against Millersville will likely clarify their postseason fate. Millersville is currently second in the standings at 4-1, but a head-to-head win for KU would be huge.

Kutztown hosts the Marauders on the Keystone Courts this coming Tuesday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
