PHILADELPHIA -- Chestnut Hill earned a sweep of this year's home-and-home series with the Kutztown University men's tennis team with a 7-0 home victory over the Golden Bears in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Bears pushed the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) runners-up at a number of flights in both doubles and singles, but were ultimately unable to come up with a point.
The Griffins (9-6) won all three doubles flights, though
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and
Lucas Cherniak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini) forced extra games at No. 3, before falling to Tobi Michel and Siddarth Malik, 7-5.
In singles, No. 4
Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) and No. 6
Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) each went to third-set super tiebreakers against their respectively opponents, before coming up just short of victories. Vicente Pedro held off Robinson's comeback bid 5-7, 6-4, 10-7, while Gincauskas fell to Marcello Bozzone after claiming his opening set 0-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) took six games off Tom Pitchley at No. 2 in a 6-2, 6-4 loss and
Neal Devkaran (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) dropped a hard-fought second set in a 6-1, 6-4 defeat to Joao Sousa.
Kutztown (6-6) will try to bounce back tomorrow when it heads to Bloomsburg for a PSAC match at 3 p.m.
