KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The duo of
Angela Moncavage (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and
Brianna Wendling (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) improved to 5-3 on the season with a victory at third doubles, Wednesday, but it wasn't enough to counter one of the top teams in the PSAC East as Millersville left the Keystone Courts with a 7-0 win.
Moncavage and Wendling doubled up the Marauders' Sophie Lanius and Sarah McComas, 6-3, for their third straight win and fourth in five conference matches. Unfortunately, visiting Millersville had already clinched the available point with matching 6-0 victories and first and second doubles.
Millersville (6-8, 5-1 PSAC East) went on to capture all six singles flights in straight sets. Kutztown's (6-9, 3-3 PSAC East)
Sarah Lazarchak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) won five games in her No. 2 match against Maria Ojeda (6-3, 6-2), while No. 1
Ava Lewis (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) took three games from Noelle Htwar in a 6-1, 6-2 loss and Moncavage did the same against McComas at No. 6 with the exact same set scores.
Prior to Wednesday's match, KU held Senior Day ceremonies for
Jessika Klo (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom),
Jess Marks (Allentown, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and Wendling.
Kutztown will step out of league to face a pair of Mountain East Conference schools this weekend. The Golden Bears head to West Virginia Wesleyan at 3 p.m., Friday, before taking on Fairmont State, Saturday, at 11 a.m.
