STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Kutztown University men's track and field team headed to Staten Island on Friday to take part in the Fasttrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility.  

Freshman Gabe Sample (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) stole the show, taking first place in the long jump. The Reading, Pa. native captured first and a PSAC qualifying mark with a 6.80-meter jump, coming.30 meters short of the NCAA qualifying mark.

Outside of Sample, nine other Golden Bears earned PSAC marks in Staten Island. TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) was KU's second-highest finisher, earning fourth in the high jump and a PSAC mark with a 2.01-meter jump. Anthony DeFusco (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished fifth in the triple jump, followed by Jordon Floyd (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) in ninth. In the pole vault, both Nate Schaeffer (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) and Jason Mraz (Edison, N.J./Edison) cleared the bar at 4.35 meters. Jacob Solonoski (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly) earned a PSAC mark in the weight throw with a 14.83-meter throw.  

On the track, Adam Brocato (Reisterstown, Md./Calvert Hall) and Port Habalar (Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) both had solid showings in the 3000 meters, along with Kyle Love (Lansdowne, Pa./Bonner-Prendergast) in the 60-meter hurdles. Brocato and Habalar also set top ten times in school history, placing themselves sixth and ninth respectively on the all-time list in the 3000-meters. All three hit PSAC times. The 4000-meter distance medley relay team of Darien Clarke (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink), Owen Weaver (Baldwinsville, Pa./C.W. Baker), Brocato, and Habalar finished fourth in the event with a time of 10:52.29.

Some of KU's men's team will take part in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 10, up in Boston, Mass. The majority will hit the track again on home turf next Friday at the KU Last Chance Meet, hosted at the O'Pake Fieldhouse. That meet will start at 4 p.m.
