Women’s soccer earns No. 2 seed in Atlantic Region, will host Concord in NCAA First Round game

INDIANAPOLIS -- For the third straight year and 12th time in program history, the Kutztown University women's soccer team heard its name called during the NCAA Selection Show and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Bears earned the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region and will face off against No. 7 Concord. KU also earned the hosting rights for the first and second rounds of the tournament, with No. 3 West Chester and No. 6 Frostburg State being the other teams involved.

KU (14-1-5, 12-0-4 PSAC East) enjoyed one of its most successful regular seasons in program history, going unbeaten en route to the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East. Erik Burstein's squad downed Bloomsburg in the PSAC Quarterfinal for their first win in the PSAC Tournament in six years before falling to Gannon in the semifinals.

The Golden Bears are 6-8-3 all-time at the big dance. KU's best postseason run came in 2016 when the Golden Bears downed West Chester and Bridgeport before falling to the eventual champions Western Washington in the Final Four. Last season, KU entered the region as the seventh and final seed, making a run to the Sweet 16 before falling to West Chester on a last-second goal.

KU's first-round opponent will be Concord. The Golden Bears have a perfect 4-0 record all-time against the Mountain Lions dating back to 2010. The two teams met back on Sept. 2, where senior midfielder Lexy Endres (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) netted a second-half brace to lift the Golden Bears to a 2-1 comeback win. Concord enters this matchup with a 12-6-2 record after falling in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament Semifinal on Nov. 8.

The other first round matchup will take place between No. 3 West Chester and No. 6 Frostburg State at Keystone Field. West Chester won its second consecutive PSAC Tournament crown this past weekend at Keystone Field, while Frostburg State fell in the MEC Championship game.

Dates and game times have yet to be determined. Be sure to check KUBears.com throughout the week for game and ticket information.
