Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Senior midfielder
Natalie Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) found the back of the net for her first career goal, lifting the Kutztown University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Shepherd Rams in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division action at the Shepherd Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (7-3, 5-3 PSAC East) exacted revenge on its opponent in West Virginia, as while the Rams (3-1-5, 2-1-5 PSAC East) put up 12 total shots by seven different players, they couldn't create the same success that they had in prior matches up to this point in the season.
Ryan found the back of the net in the 24th minute for the Golden Bears, sending a ball into the top of the frame over the hands of Shepherd keeper Hannah Wilt. It was one of four shots the Shepherd defense allowed on goal, but the fourth-year Golden Bear put the ball in a perfect spot to give KU the decisive edge against one of the top teams in the conference.
Goalkeeper
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) and the Kutztown defensive unit were kept busy but held their own against a lethal Shephard attack, as four of the Rams' 12 total shots were on frame. The West Chester, Pa., native was credited with all four saves in a shutout performance – her third of the season and fourth of her career.
Junior forward
Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) took six of Kutztown's nine total shots, landing one on frame. Fellow third-year teammate
Maura Day (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington) put her lone shot of the day on goal as well.
The Rams held an advantage in shots (12-9), shots on goal (4-3) and corners (6-2), while the Golden Bears held a 4-2 edge in saves.
Kutztown delivered the Rams their first shutout loss since a 1-0 loss to West Chester on October 9, 2024. It was also the Rams' first regular season defeat since their game against the Golden Rams, a stretch of 16 games undefeated, one of the longest marks in the nation.
The Golden Bears return home to Keystone Field to face the Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m.
