KUTZTOWN, Pa. – It was a game filled with change of possession and momentum for both teams at Keystone Field, but the timing was right for the Kutztown University women's soccer team, as junior striker
Corinne Morgan (Port Republic, N.J./Cedar Creek) landed a goal in the side of the box for the 1-0 victory over the 25th-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division battle on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears (6-3, 4-3 PSAC East) are heading into a tough stretch that will likely be a pivotal moment for conference standings. It was another physical, PSAC contest for both sides, with the teams combining for 20 fouls and a yellow card. The nationally ranked Huskies (6-2-2, 3-2-2 PSAC) ended up being an evenly matched opponent, as the two teams traded blows back and forth throughout the sunny afternoon.
Kutztown weathered a high volume of Bloomsburg shots from all directions, with all four on-target Husky shots being saved by keeper
Morgan O'Donnell (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin). Bloomsburg's defensive unit managed to hold up the Golden Bears' offensive attack, including the number of looks that came their way.
In addition to Morgan's strike, the Port Republic, N.J., native tallied three shots (two on goal), while midfielder
Emma Gonzalez (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) was credited with a pair of shots. The Maroon and Gold led the game in corner kicks (8-5) and saves (4-2), while the opposition led the game in both shots (12-8) and shots on frame (4-3).
The Golden Bears travel to West Virginia to face PSAC East contender Shepherd on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. before returning home for Senior Day against Lock Haven on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m.
