KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Six different players scored third-ranked Kutztown Field Hockey's six goals in a 6-0 non-conference victory over Coker Friday evening at Andre Reed Stadium.
Â
The Golden Bears (9-1 overall), who won for the third time in-a-row, took care of business in a matchup sandwiched in-between two ranked conference games. Two of the six Golden Bear scorers notched their first tallies of the season in
Grace Harrold (York, Pa./Central York) and
Olivia Osborne (Atco, N.J./Hammonton). It was the second career goals for both.
Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen),
Sierra Jester (Felton, Del./Lake Forest),
Andie Sierer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and
Greenleigh McGehee (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) rounded out the scoring for the home team.
Â
Just as it did less than 48 hours earlier in the 3-0 win over Bloomsburg, KU was able to take a multi-goal lead in the opening quarter as Traynor and Jester both recorded their second goals of the season at the time.
Â
Harrold netted her first goal on the year and for just the second time in her career just 2:40 into the second quarter off an assist by
Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick) to give the Maroon and Gold a 3-0 advantage. Sierer found the back of the cage just as time expired off a rebound to send her team to a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Â
McGehee tallied a goal 9:13 into the third quarter off a rebound of her own shot and then Osborne capped the scoring in the quarter with her first goal of the season.
Â
All three goalies saw action in the game, including starter
Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) who earned the victory and finished with one save while facing two shots.
Ella Weidenhammer (Newport, Pa./Newport) and
Alaina Telenko (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) both entered in the second half.
Â
KU outshot the Cobras (1-8) 27-3 overall, 17-1 on goal and held a 20-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Â
Kutztown will next take on nationally-ranked Shippensburg, which is undefeated in conference play, next Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m., from Andre Reed Stadium.
