Top-ranked Kutztown featured in initial NCAA Regional Rankings

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team was among the programs featured in the first edition of the 2025 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings, released Wednesday afternoon.

The NCAA regional rankings are used to determine which teams qualify for the upcoming NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship. In this initial release, teams are listed alphabetically rather than numerically. Beginning next week, the rankings will be published in ranked order each Wednesday through Nov. 5.

Kutztown represents the Atlantic Region, joined by Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Lander, Newberry, Shippensburg, and West Chester.

The Golden Bears have already defeated three of those regionally listed programs—Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, and West Chester—as part of their historic 14-0 start, the best season start and longest win streak in program history. KU has also broken single-season school records for goals (79) and assists (53) so far in 2025.

Kutztown (14-0 overall, 6-0 PSAC) remains one of only two undefeated teams in Division II, alongside regionally ranked Newberry (13-0). KU also became the first PSAC team to clinch a berth in the 2025 conference playoffs following its 7-0 win over Slippery Rock this past weekend.

The Bears are back in action tonight, visiting Millersville for the second time this season, the only opponent to take KU to overtime thus far, as they look to extend their win streak to 15 straight. Including tonight's matchup, KU has four regular-season games remaining, including a top-two showdown with No. 2 Shippensburg.

The NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship will feature eight teams in a single-elimination format:
  • Five from the Atlantic Region, including two automatic qualifiers (one from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and one from the South Atlantic Conference) and three at-large selections.
  • Three from the East Region, consisting of one automatic qualifier from the Northeast-10 Conference and two at-large selections.
Regional rankings will continue to be released weekly on Wednesdays until the full tournament field is announced at 9:30 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Nov. 9, live on NCAA.com.

The 2025 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship begins with first-round games on Saturday, Nov. 15, followed by semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21, and the national championship game on Sunday, Nov. 23, at Steph Pettit Stadium in Bloomsburg, Pa.
