White wins silver in the high jump, Golden Bears seventh heading into final day of PSAC Outdoor Championships

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Kutztown University men's track & field team got a silver medal-winning effort and program top 10 performance from freshman TJ White (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) in the high jump, while Giordanovenchy Cerisier (North Wales, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) joined the top 10 in the 3000-meter steeplechase during Friday's events at the 2022 PSAC Outdoor Championships.

White, a Berks County native, entered the meet ranked tied for sixth in the conference in the high jump, but got off to a great start by clearing his first three heights on his initial attempt at each. At 2.02m (6'7.5"), White and Slippery Rock's AJ Virata were the only athletes to successfully find their way over the bar. Neither could come up with a clearance at 2.05m (6'8.75"), however, and Virata claimed the gold by virtue of his successful first jump at 2.02m, while White cleared on his third attempt.

With his career best jump, White entered Kutztown's all-time top 10 in ninth, but surely with the talent to climb in the years ahead.

Cerisier exploded for his fastest 3000m steeplechase by 35 seconds, turning in the eighth best time in school history with a 9:33.36 to place sixth and earn the Bears three points in the team standings.

Jordon Floyd (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) took eighth in the long jump to snag the last available point with a best jump of 6.61m (21'8.25").

KU qualified its 4x100m relay for Saturday's final, with Savaughn Hebron (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Tyeshawn Worrell (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), Don Hill (Philadelphia, Pa./Neshaminy) and Justin Robinson (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) registering the sixth best prelim time (42.34). Hill also punched his ticket to the 400m hurdles final by ranking seventh in prelims with a time of 56.91.

Cameron Baumgardner (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin) remained 10th and Darien Clarke (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) finished 11th as the decathlon wrapped up. Both student-athletes set new overall PRs with Baumgardner totaling 4855 points and Clarke 4804. Baumgardner set a PR in the 110m hurdles (16.81) and tied a PR in the pole vault (3.25m/10'8"). Clarke recorded PRs in the 110m hurdles (18.40), pole vault (2.75m/9'0") and 1500m (5:18.15).

Kutztown sits seventh in the team standings with 12 points following Friday's competition. Saturday's events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
