KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Cecelia Knecht's (North Charleston, S.C./Fort Dorchester) 11-over par 83 was tied for the ninth-best score during Saturday's second round of the PSAC Women's Golf Championship at Berkleigh Golf Club. While Kutztown University saw four of its five players lower their scores from the first round, it was unable to gain ground in the team standings, remaining seventh heading into Sunday's final round.
Knecht is squarely in the hunt for her second straight top 10 individual finish at the conference championship tournament following an impressive back nine. She had a birdie on the par 3, 139-yard sixth to go along with three pars in shooting 44 going out, but got in the zone coming in with five pars and another birdie, this one on the par 5 at No. 16, for a 2-over 39.
Knecht sits in a tie for 12th with Mercyhurst's Sofia Carrizosa, both players shooting 170 (+26) through two days. Kutztown's leader in scoring average on the season is three shots back of Maria Arenas of Gannon and Taylor Hileman of Millersville for a spot in the top 10.
Olivia Donnini (Wapwallopen, Pa./Crestwood) slipped out of the top 20 to 27th after a second round 91. It was an up and down day for the junior from Wapwallopen, Pa., who actually led the team with three birdies, but ran into trouble on the back nine.
Alivia Miesowitz (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) recorded her second career-low round in as many days, cutting two shots off her opening round 95 to card a 93, Saturday. Kutztown's Hazleton duo of Miesowitz and
Grace Babinchak (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) are together on the leaderboard in 34th and 35th, respectively, after Babinchak's five-shot improvement to a 92. It was the biggest gain in the Golden Bears' lineup.
The Bears' No. 5,
Kayla McMahon (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial), entered the 90s by shedding three shots from her first round effort to finish with a 99. McMahon picked up two positions in the standings to 42nd.
Gannon strengthened its lead in the team standings by 11 shots over both Mercyhurst and Cal U. The Golden Knights (639) are 32 strokes ahead of the Lakers (671) and 33 in front of the Vulcans (672). Millersville (695) and West Chester (707) complete the top five.
Kutztown (727) is still within striking distance of the top five, trailing sixth-place Bloomsburg (719) by eight shots and the Golden Rams by 20.
Sunday's final round will tee off at 10 a.m.
