WE’RE #1 | KU Field Hockey receives top ranking for first time in 15 years

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – For the first time since 2007 and for just the second time in program history, the Kutztown University field hockey team is on top of NCAA Division II field hockey, earning the No. 1 ranking in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, announced Tuesday.

The Golden Bears (16-2 overall, 8-1 PSAC) are just the third program to be ranked No. 1 in the country in their respective sport, joining women's soccer (#1 in 2017) and baseball (#1 in 2007), along with the 2007 Maroon and Gold field hockey team.

Kutztown's 16 regular season wins is tied for second-most in program history. KU earned the top seed in next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament and will host the final four at Andre Reed Stadium. The semifinal round is set for Friday, Nov. 18, followed by the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 20.

The top-five of the national poll is all PSAC members. Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg come in at a tie for second, followed by West Chester and Millersville. KU is 3-1 on the year against those four teams, only falling to the Golden Rams in overtime, 4-3, on Oct. 1.

Schedule for PSAC Championships will be out later in the week or this weekend. Follow kubears.com to see who Kutztown will play in the semifinals.
